The grand opening ceremony of the Burj Khalifa, originally referred to as the Burj Dubai, took place on January 4, 2010 to commensurate the 4th anniversary of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum’s assumption into office as the Ruler of Dubai.   With 10,000 fireworks and a combination of over 50 special effects it was quite a sight to behold.  It was at the opening ceremony that the official announcement of this iconic structure’s name change was unveiled. 

Standing over 828 meters tall, with 160 inhabitable floors and 40 maintenance levels, the Burj Khalifa is recognized as the tallest man-made structure in the world.  As an unprecedented international “labor of love”, bringing the top talent of the world together for its development, it has placed Dubai on the map as playing a major role in an ever changing world.  Its unique design, inspired by the Hymenocallis flower, makes it an architectural work of art, and positions the facility to provide maximum views of the Arabian Gulf.
As the world’s most prestigious address, it will house a designer hotel, the Giorgio Armani Hotel, the first of its kind, on 15 of the first 39 floors.  The other floors will house the Armani Residences, providing one and two bedroom apartment in accordance to living the “Armani Lifestyle”.   In addition, floors through to the 108th will offer studio, one, two, three, and four bedroom suites that offer a vast array of exceptional and state-of-the-art facilities, for an unparalleled experience, including a 4-story health and recreation annex, a 1.2 million sq. ft. park that offers a beautifully landscaped garden with a number of water features, 2 tennis courts, a children’s playground, a gourmet market and convenient store, and valet parking.  Located on the top floors, are the ultimate in corporate suites, offering the latest in high-level security, office technology, and a first-class business lounge positioned on the 123rd floor.  Situated on the 124th  floor, is the Burj Khalifa’s Observation Deck, where at 442 metres, it offers visitors the most magnificent views of the Dubai skyline from what is considered the highest outdoor observation deck in the world.
Situated at its base is the Dubai Fountain.  At a cost of over 800 million AED ($217M), the Dubai Fountain is a record-setting fountain system designed by the same team that created the fountains at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.  Now considered the largest dancing fountain, it spans 275 meters long, shooting water as high as 150 meters high.
